Dumplings can turn a stew or a soup into a one-pot meal. You don’t have to heat up any garlic bread or get buns to go with the soup. By adding dumplings you have your starchy carb right on top of your stew or soup, ready to go! Make my homemade Bisquick mix and try these dumplings next time you make Irish stew or Cowboy stew.
Bisquick Dumplings
Bisquick is bought at most grocery stores and is a favorite of many. It is easy to mix up as you just need to add milk and it’s ready to cook. You could use water in a pinch, but the flavor of the milk is richer and makes for a better dumpling. These dumplings are also used for Bisquick chicken and dumplings as well!
Cooking Tips
When dropping the dumpling dough by spoonfuls onto the top of the stew, try to make sure they are all the same size so the dumplings will all cook evenly. Then the dumplings will all be done at the same time.
How to Make Bisquick Dumplings
Bisquick dumplings are mixed up in less than 5 minutes and placed onto the top of a hot soup or stew.
- Stir the Bisquick mix and the milk together until completely combined and formed into a sticky, soft dough.
- Drop the biscuit dough by large tablespoonfuls onto the hot stew or soup mixture. I like to drop it onto areas that have liquid so the biscuits do not get dried out. This will make 8 dumplings.
- Place the lid back on the Dutch oven/soup pot/slow cooker and cook for 15 minutes.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 5 minutes or until the biscuits are done.
Spices To Add to These Dumplings
There are several spices that you can add to dumplings to make them even more tasty. You can add thyme, parsley, and oregano for a wonderful flavor. Or you can even add some green onion or even dill works well, something that my Ukrainian grandma used to put in her dumplings!

- The biscuits will be done when the top and bottoms are cooked and no longer sticky.
Notes
- You can add seasoning to this if you want, like dried parsley, dill, etc.
