I didn’t have a Valentine this Valentines Day.

I was lucky enough to have TWO of them!

A pair of adorable, pint sized, sassy Valentines.

When I found out that Mike was going to be away in the City of Brotherly Love on Valentine’s Day – true story, he went to Philadelphia –  and thus I could get up to no good I was alone on Valentine’s Day, my mind starting concocting evil plans.

Because as a mother of two, you are never truly alone.

So what to do with the kids?

We had a tea party!

Ok, granted, most kids don’t get treats from a gourmet bakery but their mother can justify anything when it comes to sweet treats. I picked up the treats from Duchess Bakery Valentine’s morning then made up their gift bags while they were at school.

I went shopping at Micheal’s Valentines morning. I perpetually leave things to the last minute, because I am usually unprepared for most things.

But I also like deals, and deals happen at Micheals close to or when the holiday ends.

These buttons? $.60.

So. Adorable. Ten cents apiece.

These mugs I couldn’t resist after Christmas, they were 33 cents apiece. The sayings are beautiful and I love the Victorian motif.

So after we put on our buttons, which was a requisite for sitting at the tea table, the kids proceeded to decorate their mugs.

You guessed it, 60 cents apiece.

Crazy windup toy? Yes. 60 cents.

And it was one of the lovliest, if not THE loveliest Valentine’s Days I have had.  My kids that I love, crafts, spoiling ourselves with sweet treats and peppermint tea, then ordering Chinese take-out.

All we needed was Mike, but we called him at bedtime and snuggled together while he told the kids a bedtime story via speakerphone.

I think we might have started a fun new family tradition, but next year let’s hope it’s with Dad as well!

(yes, my son was incredibly excited about that cake, just like his mother)
