close up of a pair of black boots from Bogs Footwear

Way back, in the pre-cook off days, Bogs Footwear contacted me and asked me if I wanted to review a pair of their boots for them. To be completely forthright and  clear as a bell honest, I have been jonesing for a pair for quite some time now. A friend of mine has been raving about them all winter long and her family is shod in Bogs, from the shortest to tallest member, boys and girls alike. So when the email arrived in my inbox I leapt at the chance faster than Simba would jump on a gazelle.

With a slightly cynical heart, because as most people who are regular readers know, I hate shoe shopping.

Hate. It.

I have mentioned before how I would rather have a root canal than look for shoes and boots, due to my gargantuan size 11 feet. They used to be a 10 and then I had children. Size ten used to be hard enough to find and now 11 is almost impossible. If you don’t get the one pair a store has in stock, you are hooped.

I was ecstatic to find many pair of Bogs available in size 11 for women.

Especially when I saw these babies:

These are MY kind of rubber boots! Hard working but beautiful. These are called the McKennaĀ Ā and the description from the website reads below:

The BogsĀ® McKenna is as stylish as it is functional. Constructed with leather over a Neo-Tech upper to protect from the elements. Non-slip, non-marking and self-cleaning deep lug outsole for optimal traction. Molded EVA sockliner with Aegis anti-microbial odor protection. Comfort-rated from temperate to sub-zero conditions. The gold buckle detail adds an equestrian flair so you can look good while going about your day.

The only change I would add to that is that the buckle is a gorgeous pewter, not gold. And so much prettier.

Not only are they a size 11, they are wide, comfortable and warm. These babies are good in subzero conditions and just right for spring weather. They are also an extremely fine looking boot. So pretty, in fact, that I won’t wear them in my yard.

Remember my post about my yard?

This is now all mud.

My Bogs are too pretty to get all muddy.

This is a serious conundrum.

These babies are meant to get down and dirty, be hard working, waterproof, awesome gardening boots.

I just want to wear them out in public and be all purty.

I will compromise and use them once the yard is in, for rainy days and slogging around. I just can’t bring myself to use them in the muck.

Due to the insulating they are most definitely too hot for the warmer weather we have had recently, but I suspect I will be able to use them for my winter boots this year, another reason not to get them muddy. I also wanted to wear them to the Slow Food Gala coming up – rubber boots are welcome!- but again, far too hot for an inside event.

Considering that we get 9 months of winter and 3 months of rain it seems, I am going to get some great use out of these babies.

My other two top choices, which I agonized over were this red Alex:Ā Ā (which also comes in purple and teal!)

And this Rider One.

Black Boots from Bogs Footwear

The McKenna won out but man, I really want to get my hands on that red pair, even over purple, which is odd for this purple loving girl.

I think I could get those red boots muddy. I could give it a go.

Wouldn’t I look cute in my backyard mud pit in those red ones?

Welcome Sharon! My friend swears by her Bogs and she lives here in Edmonton, wears them ALL winter. Actually, I think her whole family is shed in Bogs for the winter! They aren’t the same style as mine, however. I would email Bogs, they are pretty helpful! Or actually, Twitter them! I’ve seen them reply to questions on Twitter too!

I’m considering buying these lovely boots to weather wet winters in Nova Scotia. I’m wondering, though, how you’re finding them for warmth? I’ve been hunting around on the internet for info on this and all I can find is that they’re good in “sub-zero” (Fahrenheit) conditions. Thoughts?

    Love you blog!

I am so happy you started to follow me on twitter and now I have discovered the new wonder Bogs. I love my current pair, the best money I have ever spent on shoes, but after 6 months of winter I look forward to being a little me stylish.
