Freshly caught brook trout for supper.
Those my friends, are six magical words that has every fisherman perking up their ears and reaching for their tackle box and fishing rod, ready to leave the house at a moments notice. Your nerves tingle with anticipation of the next big catch and taste buds kick into overdrive at the thought of the next meal to grace your supper table.
Indeed, just saying the words to myself evokes memories that will take too long to write at this moment, but the part of the story that includes My Sunday Table has to be told today.
Fresh brook trout for supper just happened, it came, saw, conquered our taste buds and I am proud to say while this may be the barest My Sunday Table I have ever set decoration-wise, it’s one of the most beautiful tables I’ve ever eaten at.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, nothing compares to the experience of eating something you’ve caught yourself, especially when it’s fish from a clean, crisp Alberta lake that produces fish with a flavor so mild you’ll never buy store-bought again.
Brook trout are new to me, indeed, this fishing excursion was the first time I’ve ever caught them which makes this joy tenfold. To cross something off my “Fishing Bucket List” (I see a new category for The Wild coming right up when I post the Brook trout story!) and then to enjoy the fruits of said fishing labor makes this experience extraordinary.
Thus, my Sunday Table this week is extraordinary. I appreciate how lucky am I and how blessed I am, to be able to eat this today.
This week sees secondhand finds featured on my table as I love my bargain shopping for tableware!
The center white wicker basket – Value Village. $6.99.
Small brown basket: 50 cents at a garage sale
All the plates and bowls are Target, ranging from $2.99 to $3.99 each.
Small glass vase, Value Village $1.99.
Those who have been paying close attention have seen my fishing pictures from this weekend, all our big, beautiful Northern Pike catches which I will write about as well, of course.
The trout adventure was so surreal, so precious, that I didn’t Instagram or Facebook a single photo. You’ll soon see why.
The write up about brook trout fishing may take me a few days because I want to make sure that I get the story perfect. It almost seems impossible for me to capture the day of fishing for Brook Trout in mere words.
So today I leave you with one mere picture of the day fishing and the ensuing supper of brook trout that followed.
Did anyone else get in some fishing this weekend? Sunbathing? Reading?
I hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend, thank you so much for stopping by and reading!
Love,
Karlynn

You seriously rock. š LOOK AT THAT TROUT!!! Absolutely brilliant. š And I’m a thrift store scavenger too! I miss Value Village, but here in Oz they have Op Shops (Opportunity Shops), and I love going treasure-hunting in them. š
