Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Banana Boats Recipe

When is the last time you had a banana boat?

Was it in Girl Guides or Boy Scouts while singing around the campfire on your first camp out away from Mom and Dad?

Perhaps it was many years ago as a teenager around a firepit that had more than hot chocolate involved, if you get what I mean.

For me, I swear the last time I indulged in a banana boat was in Girl Guides. Girl Guides opened my eyes to oh-so-many things but there are only a few that have stuck with me to this date.

1) Never, EVER sleep in the clothes you wore that day when camping in a tent. You will freeze your little 10 year old tush off all night and be a very sad Girl Guide in the morning. Always change into something else to sleep in. I learned this the cold way.

2) Iced tea can be drank as a hot drink. My view of the world tilted when I learned this. Hot. Iced. Tea. The words spoken together are inherently wrong, but the drink is oh-so right.

3) Banana boats rock my socks. (as long as they are clean, dry socks that you are wearing to bed that night)

I am ashamed that this is the first year I have made banana boats for my children. I have, to my credit, passed on my knowledge of always changing into clean clothes to sleep in while camping, so I am one out of three.

I am not introducing them to hot iced tea. Ever.

Banana boats are the simplest of camping desserts;  ripe bananas that are sliced end to end – but not all the way through the peel – and then filled with marshmallows and chocolate chips. One of my readers suggested on my Facebook Page that I try Reese’s Peanut Butter cups.

All of you who know me well by now just rolled your eyes, because you know that I would make anything with Reese’s Peanut Butter cups in it.

Challenge accepted!

You need five things for this recipe:

• ripe bananas
• Reese’s Mini peanut butter cups
• marshmallows
• tin foil
• a nice fire

Slice the banana end to end without cutting all the way through to the other side.

Place as many Reese’s PB cups and chopped up marshmallows as you can possibly cram inside the banana.

Wrap the banana in tin foil.

The fire below is about what you are wanting to cook banana boat, nice coals with very little flame.

Place your banana boat on the firepit grill.

Heat for 7-8 minutes.

When your banana boat is done, everything inside is going to have melted into this amazing gooey, sticky, chocolate marshmallow bliss.

With peanut butter.

Hold me.

You are gonna scoop out that banana boat until nothing is left but that peel, savouring each bite like it’s your last.

Then you’re gonna look around for someone else’s banana boat.

So thank you to the reader who suggested this combo, it is absolutely to die for! Yet another reason why you guys are seriously the best readers ever. Who else would suggest my deepest, darkest temptation baked into a banana boat? This is the best banana boat recipe ever!
