A decadent, rich shortbread base with toffee, chocolate chips, and almonds baked on top. This almond crunch toffee bar recipe is made easier by using toffee bits purchased in the store, which makes a wonderful chewy toffee in half the time!

Almond Crunch Toffee Bars

These dense, chewy bars are a fabulous change from the norm and made from basic ingredients, too! They’re for people who love a little more chewiness in their treats so they can savor the flavors longer!

Toffee Bits

  • You can find the toffee bits in the baking aisle next to the chocolate chips.
  • The toffee bits are made by Heath or by Skor, and they are made with almonds, so this is not nut-free.

Types Of Nuts To Use

This recipe calls for almonds, as they pair well with toffee. But you can use lots of other nuts, too, like hazelnuts, cashews, pistachios, or my personal favorite, pecans. Pick your favorite nut, and feel free to substitute it for the almonds!

How To Make These Bars

This recipe looks complicated because of the layers, but it really has only a few steps! Make sure to check out the entire recipe card for the in-depth steps to make this; this is just a summary.

  1. Beat butter and sugar, and add flour, beating until well mixed.
  2. Press dough into the greased pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Combine toffee bits and corn syrup in a saucepan and stir until the toffee is dissolved. Add in 1/2 cup almonds. 
  4. Spread the toffee mixture onto the crust. Sprinkle the rest of the almonds and chocolate chips over the top. Bake for 15 more minutes.
  5. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

Karlynn’s Tips

  • Watch the last 5 minutes of baking for the nuts to brown, as they can burn quite quickly. If the nuts brown before the mixture bubbles, lightly cover with aluminum foil and continue to bake.
  • Replace the almonds with pecans for a richer flavor.

How to Store Almond Toffee Bars

These bars can be easily stored in an airtight container on the counter for up to three days. They are also the perfect dessert to keep in your freezer for when guests pop over. They can be placed in an airtight container with wax paper placed between the layers so they do not freeze together.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/3 cups Heath Toffee Bits OR Skor bits
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup sliced almonds divided
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Grease sides of 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. 
  • Beat butter and sugar until fluffy. 
  • Gradually add flour, beating until well blended. 
  • Press dough evenly into prepared pan. 
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. 
  • Meanwhile, combine toffee bits and corn syrup in medium saucepan. 
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until toffee is melted (about 10 to 12 minutes). Stir in 1/2 cup almonds. 
  • Spread toffee mixture to within 1/4-inch of edges of crust. 
  • Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup almonds and chocolate chips over the top. 
  • Bake an additional 15 minutes or until bubbly. 
  • Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.
