This Black Bean & Ham Soup was such a delicious change from the usual split pea soup made with an Easter Ham Bone the week after Easter, however, there was one thing that we all agreed on while having it for supper. Damn, this soup is ugly. I was so frustrated trying to take a picture of it. It’s even uglier than my Ugly Chicken recipe and that’s saying something.
I upped the Ugly Food bar. Just call me Martha Stewart from here on in, I guess. I had to share this soup with you, however, because ugly or not, it was really tasty. I loved the black beans with the ham instead of the usual white beans or split peas.
I seriously hemmed and hawed whether or not to share this with you.
It looks so ugly. You don’t have to spare my feelings, that soup looks like swamp matter in a bowl. I’ve seen better-looking pond water than this soup.
However, I had to set my pride aside. BOTH of my children ate this, but I kid you not, my daughter covered her eyes for the first few minutes.
Oh, what a bunch of comedians I have in this little family of mine. Har de har har.
So if you have a ham bone leftover (or ham) try this ugly soup. Don’t make it for the company. Don’t take it to work the next day (although my kids did take it to school for lunch as punishment). Keep it hidden at home and eat it there.
Happy cooking!
Love you more than chocolate,
Karlynn
