How to Make Fresh Bourbon Lemonade

Mmm. Bourbon. Bourbon is definitely one of my favorite spirits and Karlynn is a huge fan so when asked to make a cocktail to enjoy on our desk over the summer, I chose a Sparkling Bourbon Lemonade. We’re recently started growing our own “cocktail garden” and filled it with fresh mint, basil and other herbs that we use frequently so coming up with a cocktail that made use of our abundance of mint was key. I also like to keep fresh lemons, limes and oranges in the house given how often I am whipping up cocktails for my Instagram feed so making use of those seemed like a good idea as well.

  • Muddle your mint leaves in an ounce or two of Bourbon to get the oils going and to enhance the taste and add to your pitcher.
  • Add Bourbon, lemon juice and orange juice to the pitcher and stir.
  • Add orange and lemon slices for garnish.
  • Top off with club soda and stir lightly (so that you don’t make your club soda flat)
  • Pour into glasses and enjoy!

This cocktail also requires simple syrup, if you aren’t familiar with how to make it, it’s quite simple. You can choose to use our Honey Simple Syrup recipe here: How To Make Mint Honey Simple Syrup.

When it comes to lemon and orange juice, it’s always better if you squeeze it yourself so I’d recommend using a juicer.

Also, if you don’t have your own mint in your garden like we do, you can pick up fresh mint from your local grocery store easily. If you are making a pitcher, you’ll need either a few cans of club soda or a bottle of it as well.

Now that you have everything in order, you are ready to get started!

I hope you like this as much as we do. It’s a great deck cocktail for those hot summer days! And remember it’s full of Vitamin C, so Karlynn swears it’s going to be her go-to cold cure 😉

I’m assuming you add 3/4 cup of simple syrup. It’s not listed in the instructions
