If you’ve been hanging around here for a few years, you will know that there is nothing I love more when I am travelling than checking out a great afternoon tea! Mike and I decided to take a quick vacation to Banff National Park after Christmas and spend New Year’s in the mountains with the kids. And since we stayed at the Banff Springs Hotel, I knew that I had to try out the Christmas afternoon tea!
Christmas Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
The offerings for the afternoon tea during the holidays vary from the new menu. Mike and I have done the Easter afternoon tea on our own, which was fantastic as well, but we did that without the kids and wanted treat them to an afternoon tea.
This is the menu for the Afternoon Tea during the Christmas season at the Fairmont. It is definitely a seasonally appropriate menu, with mincemeat tarts (so good!) and molasses cakes (my favourite) as well as many other decadent choices.
This is the children’s tea, AKA the picky eaters tea. It is way cheaper than the full tea and makes more sense when you have a picky eater. There was sadly no way that my daughter would touch even a single sandwich on the tray below, which is insane and I don’t know what I did wrong and I have zero street cred as a food blogger because my one kid eats nothing.
You start out with their scones (which are almost as good as my scone recipe). There’s nothing better than a fabulous scone with tea! They look large in the photo but they are actually bite sized, the plate is a small plate and the round white container is a small one that condiments come in, to put it into perspective.
And then, the masterpiece. This was more food than we could even think about eating, but they will absolutely pack it up for you and you can take it back to your room with you. We had wonderful snacks for the evening thanks to everything we didn’t eat.
The sandwiches were honestly my favourite part of the tea. I can (and do) make sweet treats at home but I don’t make delightful savoury little sandwiches.
Those were the real treats for me, especially the smoked trout and the duck breast. My very favourite was the roasted butternut squash though!
The tea takes place in the upper part of the Rundle Lounge, our favourite place to hang out. We love having cocktails and snacks in the lower part of the lounge later in the evening.
Our table for tea was dead center in the middle of this photo at the far end, so you can see that we had spectacular mountain views.
All in all, it was a great time with the kids and definitely should be on everyone’s bucket list!
Has anyone else tried it out? What did you think?
Love,
Karlynn
