If you are looking for a nice cream liqueur to spice up the holiday season, or to just help enhance your cocktail-making repertoire, then you definitely need to try Amarula Cream Liqueur, which is made from Marula fruit. To help you enjoy it, I’ve got a couple of easy Amarula Cream Liqueur cocktails for you to try!

Amarula Bottles

What is Amarula Cream Liqueur?

Amarula, the original Marula-based alcoholic drink, was first launched as a clear spirit in 1983. In 1989, cream was added to the Marula-based spirit changing it to a cream liqueur.

Amarula Cream Liqueur is a velvety cream liqueur with a hint of toffee, vanilla and long-lasting finish from the Marula fruit. Unlike Irish cream liqueurs, that are often Irish whiskey blended with cream, Amarula is fruit-based with its spirit derived from the fruit of the Marula tree. The fruit is picked from the trees, fermented and distilled in copper stills to convert it into a spirit. It’s then aged in French oak barrels for two years before blending it with cream.

The shape of an African elephant’s tusks are sculpted into the bottle. This is inspired by Africa’s majestic elephants who are known to walk for miles just to taste the ripe Marula fruit. Every bottle of Amarula features a distinctive tassel made by the hands of dedicated and empowered African women.

What is Marula fruit?

The Marula trees bear their fruit just once a year at the end of Africa’s summer, the scent of the fruit attracts the elephants from the surrounding areas that come to feast on the fruit.

Is Amarula nut-free?

Yes,it is! Although the Marula fruit impart a warm, nutty flavor, there are no nuts involved in the making of Amarula.

How to Make Amarula Cream Liqueur Cocktails

Amarula Cream Liqueur is a very versatile option for the budding home bartender. The flavor works well with a number of cocktail options, two of which I’m going to share with you today to help you get started! The first cocktail couldn’t be simpler, it’s an Amarula Hot Chocolate.

Amarula Hot Chocolate

This liqueur goes amazingly well with hot chocolate. One of the nicest ways to enjoy it, in fact, is to add it to a coffee or a hot chocolate mix. To make this cocktail you’ll need the following ingredients:

  1. Amarula Cream Liqueur, which you can order from your local liquor store or via Liquor Connect.
  2. Hot Chocolate Mix.
  3. Whipped Cream (Aerosol so you can spray it onto the top of the cocktail).
  4. Chocolate Sprinkles.
  5. Raspberry (for garnish).

To make the drink, combine hot chocolate mix with hot water until dissolved. Add 1-2 ounces of the liqueur and stir gently. Top with whip cream from your spray can, sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles and top with a raspberry.
