Merry Christmas everyone! I hope that you are having an amazing and safe day, however your Christmas and holiday season may look this year. I’m sure that it looks different, and I am sure that you, like me, are ready to have a normal year for 2021, so let’s cross our fingers that sometime in the spring or summer we start to get back to normal – that’s my greatest Christmas wish for us all this year.
I’d also like to point out that yes, I included my infamous huge vintage side-eye Santa in the family photo this year, for all of those who love him so much š
A New Charity Addition for 2021
Last year we started a new tradition of donating money to charity in honor of you, our readers, because without you guys reading and enjoying the recipes on our website, telling your friends about it, and buying my cookbooks, there would be no Kitchen Magpie. We are blessed to do what we do and are thrilled to give back to the community we live in, in your honor.
This year not only are we going to keep sponsoring two families a month through the Edmonton food bank, we have also chosen to add SAFE Team Rescue as our second charity of choice this year. Not many of you know that we lost my daughters beloved orange cat to liver failure in early 2020, (making this year so much harder on the kids) and as a family we chose our next charity to be one that supports the rehoming and care of cats.
We are sponsoring one of the corporate cat rooms that house the cats while they wait for their new forever homes for the next year in honor of our chubby orange boy Fanta that we miss so much.
Now I don’t want this to be a sad post on Christmas, and the beautiful, happy news is that we are partnering with SAFE to do monthly updates on the cats that have been rehomed through the room, so that we can all enjoy photos of cats finding their forever homes for the next 12 months!
And we always want you to know that it’s all thanks to you acknowledging and putting up with the fact that we need to have ads here on The Kitchen Magpie, and we need to work with sponsors, so that we can run our business and do amazing things like this. Thank you for all of your support over the last year, we appreciate you all SO much!
And if you haven’t met her, we would like to introduce Muffin, the newest member of our family.
She’s definitely a character, and has a personality of her own. She’s a Siberian Ragdoll mix, smart as heck, and trouble with a capital T. You can tell by the scowl she’s giving us in the photo below that she’s not into this whole Christmas outfit gig.
So from our crazy family to yours, a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and let’s hope for the best in 2021! I hope that you have all made it through 2020 in one piece, maybe not perfectly, surely not without some huge bumps in the road as we all experienced this year, but here we are ready to tackle a new year and I am hoping that we are all going to come out of this pandemic a little bit stronger, more compassionate and one day, this is going to be stories that we tell our grandkids. Right? That’s what I keep telling myself, I’ll be that grandparent talking about the pandemic and telling my grandkids “your generation doesn’t know hardship” LOL!
Merry Christmas and stay tuned for our first update in January – and who knows, maybe we will find some furry friends some local homes with readers this coming year!
Love and all of our very best wishes for 2021 for you and your families,
Karlynn, Mike, Kade and Ivy

I have become a Magpie stalker. I love you and Mr. Magpie. I look forward to the articles you send out. I think I was more excited over the last unpacking of your lovely glass than you were. I look forward to 2021. Your recipes are great. So are the cocktails! You and the Mr. are the kind of people I want to share the planet with. You care about others as seen with your family adoptions. Your saving old and historical glassware is a tribute to glass artists in a time gone by, and your appreciating their talents is so great. Your love of food and family is seen daily. And all the cats that are lucky enough to be adopted by your family and shared with us are another example of the care you take with the world around you. Merry Christmas to all of you and a safe and blessed New Year to all of us.
