What could possibly be a better cocktail party snack than pigs in a blanket? They are only 3 ingredients and you can easily whip them up with some homemade honey mustard sauce or horseradish sauce or my fave, Russian dressing!

Pigs in a Blanket
Pigs in a blanket is a pretty ridiculous concept, let alone a name, for food, but there is just something so exceptionally delicious about combining sausages and pastry.
This recipe for pigs in a blanket makes for a great basic boilerplate recipe for you to play around with. Feel free to add extra ingredients or dashes of flavor to the sausage or pastry, but just make sure that you treat the pastry right.
There is nothing sadder than a soggy blanket for your cocktail snack.
Pigs in a Blanket Ingredients

• 8 oz cans refrigerated crescent rolls
• Cocktail wieners or sliced hot dogs
• Melted salted butter
How To Make Pigs in a Blanket
• Lightly flour a work surface, and then unroll the crescent sheets
• Tear each piece carefully along the perforations
• Cut each triangle into 3 smaller triangles
• To roll, place one cocktail wiener or cut hot dog on the widest side of each triangle
• Roll, being careful to not stretch the dough down to the thinner point of the triangle
• Place them, seam side down, on a baking sheet, and then brush them with melted butter
• Bake them at 375 Fahrenheit until golden brown, about 13 minutes
How To Play Around With The Flavors In Your Pigs In A Blanket
Pigs in a blanket is a classic recipe for a reason – it is simple and it works flavorwise regardless of how uncomplicated it is.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t change things around, though! You could add any number of different flavor changes, additions, or substitutions to your pigs in a blanket to make them your own.
For example, you could sprinkle a bit of grated cheese into the pastry as you roll it to end up with a slightly cheesy taste in every bite. You could also just crumble some cheese loosely on top of the pigs in blankets when you bake them for a sort of crispy topping effect.
You could also make all kinds of different interesting mustards to dip them into! The traditional favorite would be a tasty honey mustard, but you could also alter that basic recipe with some hot sauce or even things like some dill and horseradish for something a lot more piquant.
Finally, for a really fancy twist, you could spread some pate (or foie gras, if you don’t mind the ghastly origins) over the pastry just before you add the sausage and then roll the whole thing up, like a pork wellington. However you choose to change it up, try and stick to the classic tastes you’d imagine in pigs in a blanket – salty, crunchy, and a little tangy flavor all work really well here.
What Other Things Can You Wrap In Pastry Blankets?
While small cocktail sausages are the standard types of pig to put in a blanket, you could also very easily wrap other parts of the pig instead. For example, you could coil together a small bit of bacon and fry it until crisp, and then bake that in the oven instead of the sausages.
Or, you could just use a much higher quality sausage – something with traditional pork tastes, like sage and apple or just regular black pepper and salt.
You could also sub in some vegetarian-friendly alternatives – tightly packed cooked mushrooms, some red pepper sliced in rectangles, or even some sweet potato all make great alternatives here.

Pigs in a Blanket
Ingredients
- two 8 oz cans refrigerated crescent rolls
- 48 cocktail wieners or sliced hot dogs
- 1/4 cup melted salted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375ºF.
- Lightly flour a work surface, then unroll the crescent sheets. Carefully tear each piece where it’s perforated.
- Cut each triangle into 3 smaller triangles.
- To roll, place one cocktail wiener or cut hot dog on the widest side of each triangle. Roll, without stretching the dough, down to the thinner point of the triangle. Place seam side down on a large baking sheet. Repeat until all of the sausages are wrapped.
- Use a pastry brush and brush each with melted butter.
- Place in the oven and bake until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes.
Notes
- You can use turkey weiners in this as well!

I absolutely love Pigs In A Blanket, I just can’t see ( unless they are specifically being made for hors d’oeuvres or for a snack ) making them small like that. I need a whole hot dog, along with tater tots or fries. AWWW man, now I want some pigs in a blanket.
