Smoked salmon is wonderfully versatile; sandwiches, soups, and eaten on its own, it is delicious. Perhaps the best way to enjoy it, though, is to use it to make a smoked salmon dip!

Smoked Salmon Dip

Smoked salmon is basically a magical fish; it is tasty, obviously, but it also has this base flavor of slight creaminess that makes everything wonderful the moment you add it.

While smoked salmon might be most famously enjoyed on a bagel, making a tasty, fishy, and fatty sandwich spread is definitely a top contender for the best ways to use this smoked fish.

The addition of some chives, capers, and fresh dill turns this into a really savory and fresh spread that feels amazingly filling for lunch or as a snack.

What Should you Serve This Smoked Salmon Dip With?

I love to use this dip as a sandwich spread, ideally wedged between two slices of really high-quality sourdough bread or on a bagel!

But what else could you serve this with?

If you were planning on serving this as a dip at a party, you could instead use any kind of salty, crunchy snack like a Ritz cracker or a pretzel but you can pobably reach more for the fancier stuff, such as the kinds of crackers you might find at a cheese tasting.

Or, you could just eat it with a spoon.

Just make sure no one is watching.

Could You Use Other Types Of Fish Besides Smoked Salmon?

Smoked salmon is a very common choice for these kinds of dips; pretty much every similar recipe uses smoked salmon instead of any other fish.

A big reason for this is because of just how versatile smoked salmon can be – it is able to be basically incorporated into any dish and lend its salty, savory, and almost creamy flavor to everything.

There is nothing stopping you from using other fish, though!

Why not try replacing the smoked salmon in this recipe with some smoked trout instead? It might not seem like that big a difference, but the flavor change will definitely be noticeable.

Another great option is some smoked mackerel; slightly spicier and oily, mackerel gives every dish a sort of Norwegian feel to it.

Whatever you choose to use, definitely do prefer using smoked fish; the smokiness just works so well in this recipe that you cannot skip it.
