An uncommon dessert that is sadly not seen much outside of Scandinavia and the Midwest, Swedish crème is worth making at home. A custardy, dense, and tasty dessert that is also super simple and decadent – what’s not to like?
For some other similarly textured dessert recipes, why not make this Pumpkin Custard? Or try and make some Easy Tapioca Pudding instead?
Swedish Creme with Summer Berries
Swedish crème is a unique custard dessert that is sort of halfway between a crème Brulee and a panna cotta.
However, unlike either of those desserts, this one doesn’t require any of the extra steps to get a recognizable dessert. It is simply a blend of different dairies, some sugar, and a few choices of extracts to make for a delightfully fragrant and fruity dessert.
Pair this dessert with any of your favorite summer berries, like strawberries or whatever fruit is your favorite.

What Kinds Of Fruits Are Good For This Recipe?
Swedish crème is excellent as a sort of template for all kinds of other recipes and desserts, as it pairs super well with all kinds of different fruits.
The basic, most simplistic fruit for this recipe would definitely be strawberries – they have the most summer-forward flavor profile, and their relatively low liquid content ensures that strawberries won’t mess up the overall texture of the dish.
However, don’t feel totally limited to strawberries – any fruit that screams “summer” to you would work well.
Some blueberries would be really good here, as would some really ripe orange slices cut into wedges.
If you have a few more exotic fruits like kumquats or dragon fruit, they would also work really well. As long as it has a lot of tasty sweetness and doesn’t overwhelm the consistency of the Swedish crème with juice.
Which Is Better – Orange Extract Or Grand Marnier?
Just like a lot of other similar recipes, we call for either some orange extract or to use some Grand Marnier liquor instead.
The reason for this is because Grand Marnier is basically just orange extract dialed up to 11, alongside some other contrasting flavors and a good amount of alcohol.
However, don’t let the alcohol put you off – a lot of really delicate and delicious flavor profiles are only alcohol soluble. In fact, most regular orange extracts are actually a tincture, meaning that they are slightly alcoholic on their own.
If you had the choice, you should definitely go for the Grand Marnier, but orange extract will definitely work in a pinch.
