Cooking some good salmon can sometimes be pretty tricky, especially if you want it flavored a bit. This recipe should make for a super intensely flavored, sweet, and sticky salmon that works perfect as a weeknight meal.

Maple syrup isn’t used in a lot of cooking recipes, probably because it is so expensive. However, it has such a unique and incredible flavor that has the potential to work well with so many dishes.

It works especially well in slightly Asian-themed dishes, and it contrasts beautifully with things like soy sauce and stronger flavors like garlic.

Make sure to serve this maple glazed salmon alongside some filling carbs and healthy vegetables to help offset the extra sugar you’ll be enjoying!

• Salmon

• Maple syrup (only the good stuff)

• Soy sauce

• Brown sugar

• Garlic

• Ground ginger

• Black pepper

How To Make Maple Glazed Salmon

• In a small shallow glass baking dish, mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and pepper

• Add the salmon to the maple sugar mixture and turn it to coat the salmon really well

• Cover the dish and then marinate the salmon on the counter for 30 minutes, turning it once or twice

• Place the baking dish in a preheated oven set to 400 Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes, uncovered

• Baste the salmon with the sauce from the bottom of the pan once or twice during baking

• Serve

What Could You Serve This Salmon With?

This recipe for salmon makes for a great main part of a dinner, but you probably don’t want to just serve this fish all on its own.

Thanks to the inclusion of things like maple syrup and sugar, you couldn’t even serve this fish on its own and call it keto, so what should you serve this with?

Well, the traditional accompaniments to a good piece of protein would be a vegetable side dish, as well as some kind of carb.

Carbs are easy – for fish, veer more towards things like potatoes, whether that be simply boiled and buttered small potatoes or mashed potatoes made from something like a Russet.

You could also serve it with rice, as that would work well with the very slightly Asian-inspired sauce used here.

The other thing to think about is what kind of vegetable side dish you want to have with your fish.

For this recipe, something with a bit of rigidity and bite to it, like asparagus, would be great here.

You could also serve it with some rutabaga, sometimes known as a turnip.

For both of them, simply steam the veggies and serve them with a little bit of butter – they will be simple yet super delicious and a great pairing with the fish.

Do You Have To Use High Quality Maple Syrup For This Recipe?

This recipe calls for only the very best maple syrup, just like pretty much every recipe that uses maple syrup.

The reason for this is because there is way more fake, awful quality imitation maple syrup out there than regular syrup.

Unless you are lucky enough to live in Canada or Vermont, where maple syrup is literally falling out of the trees, then it will probably be pretty expensive.

However, just like tomatoes and a good cheese, maple syrup is just one of those things that you need to budget for.

It is not only a super unique flavor, but nothing else compares to it for providing that nutty, sweet, and ever so slightly tangy flavor addition to your meals.

This is especially important for when you cook with maple syrup because the flavor of the maple syrup will permeate the entirety of the dish. If you use bad quality maple syrup, your dish will taste like it.

Though it might hurt to stomach, spring for the good stuff – try and support a local tree farm that makes their own maple syrup as well. It’s good business, plus it usually tastes way better!

Ingredients 

  • 1 pound salmon
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic (minced)
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  • In a small shallow glass baking dish, mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger and pepper.
  • Add the salmon to the maple sugar mixture and turn to coat the salmon well.
  • Cover the dish, and marinate salmon on the counter for 30 minutes, turning once or twice.
  • Preheat oven to 400°
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven, and bake salmon uncovered 15-20 minutes, basting with the sauce from the bottom of the pan once or twice during baking.
  • Serve with a vegetable like asparagus to complete the dish!
