Could You Use Homemade Mac & Cheese For This Recipe?
Part of the joy of this Mac and Cheese lasagna recipe is how quick it is to throw together, perfect for a cozy treat night in front of the TV.
However, if you happen to have a bit of extra time to spend in the kitchen, you can really enhance this recipe by making your own Mac and cheese sauce.
Box Mac and Cheese is delicious, but making your own sauce gives you the ability to experiment with different cheeses and create your perfect combination of flavors. You can also adjust other elements of the recipe, including the amount of mustard, and even try adding different seasonings.
Why not try making a blue cheese Mac and Cheese sauce or using gruyere for a rich sauce that stands out when paired with the tomato-based sauce?
Making your own Mac and Cheese for this recipe also means that you get to decide on the pasta shape that you use. Most box mixes come with the standard small macaroni-shaped pasta, but you could try using large shapes that are able to hold more sauce.
You can also try using large pasta tubes to maximize the amount of sauce that you get per bite. Or you could try using actual lasagna sheets if you prefer more of a cheese lasagna vibe.
Could You Use Actual Lasagna For This Recipe?
If you happen to have leftover lasagna from the night before, why not try adapting this recipe to make a Mac and Cheese-soaked lasagna?
Take your leftover lasagna pieces and place them in an oven-safe dish, much like the one you would use to make lasagna from scratch.
Then, pour over your homemade cheese sauce, or use the powdered flavor mix that comes as part of a Mac and Cheese box mix. You want to ensure that the sauce completely covers the lasagna and that it can soak through to the bottom of the pan.
Turning leftover lasagna into a Mac and Cheese language is the perfect way to use food that might otherwise go to waste. Reheated lasagna always feels a bit dry, as all of the sauce has cooked into the pasta. However, this method adds a whole new sauce, stopping it from becoming dry and bland in flavor, giving it all of the richness that it needs.
Just like with the original recipe, make sure to add a thick layer of mozzarella and parmesan cheese to the top of the dish before baking as well, so as to get that signature lasagna topping.

One can spaghetti sauce? 24 oz., etc. – can you give a rough estimate? The box of mac & cheese I can figure since the amount doesn’t matter if you like mac & cheese. Just don’t want too much sauce and make it soupy, etc. Thanks.
