Camping recipes need to be simple, that’s all there is to it. Even as a food blogger, the amount of time that I actually want to spend preparing food when we are camping is minimal and only when I am preparing recipes for you, my reader, do I really enjoy it.
Hey, even a food blogger wants to step away from the kitchen sometimes, especially when enjoying the great outdoors! Plus… I’m getting sad that summer is coming to an end soon, which has me wanting to cherish the time I have left with my kids at home all day. Sandwiches are perfect, you can make them healthy, fast and you are not spending too much summer time standing in your kitchen!
Lunches are usually sandwiches of some sort – I can get excited about making breakfast, I really can get into making dinner, and Lawd have mercy do I ever love desserts! – because lunch is usually the “meh” meal of the day for me.
I’ve talked about my tendency to skip lunch here in detail and camping is no different. I’d skip lunch every day if I could, but those dang children and husband of mine need feeding. Daily.
So this sandwich was something I whipped up to break up the monotony of hotdogs and grilled cheese sandwiches.
It’s simple, it’s fast and it’s easy, the perfect camping recipe. The best part – besides the fact that it’s dang tasty- is that compared to a lot of camping food, this leans onto the more healthy eating side of things, compared to *ahem* a lot of my more dessert type camping recipes. Toasting the bun and having a hot sandwich also makes this a perfect lunch for the outdoors as well, nothing heats the insides like a hot meal!
Hope you give it a whirl! Thanks for reading everyone! Do you have any favorite camping recipes to share?
Love,
Karlynn
