Are you as glad as I am that the weather is starting to feel like summer could be arriving any day now? Nice hot sunshine, with rainy days between to water the garden and most importantly, no snow?

My friends, I am more than ready for summer. I love hot weather, parties with friendā€™s and family and most of all, being outside after such a long winter!

This past weekend I threw a BBQ at my house that was hosted by Sobeys! We were asked to try out an awesome lineup of their amazing products; some products that are always available in store and other products that are only available this summer in celebration of Canadaā€™s 150th anniversary.

Along with Canadaā€™s 150th anniversary this year, itā€™s also Sobeys 110th anniversary! I had no idea that Sobeys has been around so long! Sobeys has been serving the food shopping needs of Canadians since 1907 and they own or franchise approximately 1500 stores in all ten provinces. You will know their stores as Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo. Thrifty Foods and Lawtonā€™s Drug stores. Their purpose is to help Canadians Eat Better, Feel Better and Do Better!

To me, being Canadian and celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada means being around my family. The BBQ fell on my brother Wyattā€™s birthday as well, so what a perfect time to host a party! I was a super sister this year as he got a BBQ in his honour!

Parties also must include the furry members of the family, so Root Beer was right out there with us as well, enjoying the beautiful weather and fun.

There were so many kid friendly options when it came time to choose refreshments, but my childrenā€™s favourite has always been the Sensations Italian Sodas. Out of the four different flavours, they absolutely adore the clementine and blood orange the best!

These have been a family favourite for a couple of years now, as fizzy drinks are a big treat in our household. If you ask my son if he wants a soda or a chocolate bar, the kid will go for a soda every time! When he heard that I was picking the Sensations Italian Sodas he was over the moon!

We also tried out the Compliments lemonade, which was a hit with adults and children alike. There is nothing like a cold lemonade on a hot summerā€™s day to quench your thirst!

We started out the BBQ a little backwards, as I put out Sobeys new Celebrate Canada Birthday Cookies to stave off the hunger pangs before the burgers came. The twist on the classic maple cookies had a velvety cream cheese flavoured icing and were a HIT. My daughter declared them the best cookies that she had ever eaten and when I brought a second box to the trailer the next day, the cookies rapidly disappeared, with both my Dad and my sister enjoying them.

There was also a certain adorable two-year-old cousin that loved the cookies too! Now these Celebrate Canada Birthday Cookies are only available for a limited time, so I really recommend that you head to your nearest Sobeys and pick up a couple or three boxes of them! Canada Day is here soon and these cookies are beyond perfect! Keep in mind that they will be a hit at your party, so buy accordingly!

Next up was the main event, burgers!

We used Sobeys 100% Canadian Angus Beef Burgers and the new Spirited Mickie Gold Rush, which is a BBQ sauce made with mustard and a hint of Canadian pale ale! This product is another Canadian inspired flavour that is only available for a limited time, so if you love BBQ sauces you are going to have to check it out! The spirited Mickie line of sauces also comes in Sweet & Tangy Bourbon, Craft Beer Chipotle and Seriously Sriracha.

And of course, there had to be dessert! My daughter is an ice cream fiend, when given HER choice, she will always choose ice cream over anything else. When she learned that we were trying out the new Celebrate Canada Maple-Flavoured Ice Cream Bars, she could hardly wait for dessert!

That is the smile of a little girl that has waited allllll day to have her ice cream treat! If you love maple (and who doesnā€™t!) you absolutely must go and pick up a box of these. Not only is the maple ice cream delicious, but there are little swirls of maple flavour throughout the ice cream bar, making it a maple flavour lovers dream come true.

Again, the Maple Flavoured Ice Cream Bars are also only available for a limited time, so make sure to pick them up and try them out!

How are you celebrating Canadaā€™s 150th and what does it mean to you to be Canadian? I hope that you all have a fabulous Canada Day this year (and wow are the celebrations going to be big or what!!) and enjoy the time with your loved ones!

Happy BBQ-ing! May your summer be filled with celebrating this amazing country we live in and be full of friends, family, loved ones and good times involving delicious food!
