Merry Christmas everyone and Happy Holiday wishes to you all! I hope that 2022 found all of us better than 2021, and that everyone has been getting some semblance of normality back into their lives, slowly but surely!
We would like to thank all of the readers of The Kitchen Magpie for your support and love over the last year. We really do have such a great online family, and you are all so important to us!
Our Chosen Charities for 2023
This year charities of choice in honor of all you dear readers will be the same two as last year, we still support two large families every single month of the year through the Edmonton Food Bank in your honor (because without all of you visiting this website and viewing the ads, there wouldn’t be any business!) and Safe Team Rescue, a no-kill shelter that has re-homed SO MANY cats in the past two years through the Kitchen Magpie room that it’s incredible! So many cats have loving homes thanks to them! If you follow me on Instagram, you can see all the cats every Monday ( Magpie Monday!) that are getting new homes.
Our Year in a Quick Review!
2022 has been a year of big changes for us in so many ways, but the most major news is that we bought a farm this year. One hundred and fifty-five acres of beautiful boreal forest, grassland areas, and a monstrous amount of old buildings full of junk to clean out!
The farmstead sat empty for 7-8 years, so everything needs work and fixing, but we decided that the land was definitely worth the work that we have to put in. We have a few videos up on Our YouTube channel if you want to see some of the work we’ve done!
That’s basically where we spent the entire last year, between Edmonton and the farm, working on this website and then working out at the farm.
We sadly lost our best boy Root Beer to kidney disease this year, but we are glad for the 10 years we had him, even if it wasn’t close to long enough at all. We were so glad that he got to enjoy the farm as well!
We had a new family member join us this year, Badger, and while we sure miss our buddy Root Beer, our goofy Standard Poodle puppy has brought us so much joy!
We are looking forward to spring, and getting out to the farm again to enjoy it and get some more work done!
I am glad for a break during the winter, I am ready to do puzzles and eat soup, and hide in my house. Come spring though, I will be ready to go!
I hope that you all are happy, safe and loved. Remember that we are real people behind this blog, not blog content machines, and if anyone needs to reach out and email just to say hi, feel free to do so! I enjoy hearing from you all, and the past couple of years has a lot of us feeling disconnected and adrift. Just don’t email telling me that I spell perogy wrong. That “y” on the end is an Edmonton Ukrainian thing, trust me š
Merry Christmas, and here’s to a great 2023!
Love,
The Magpie Family

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Hoping you all have a great New Year too!
Thanks so much for all the recipes you share. I made the rhubarb coconut crunch recipe for this past Thanksgiving. It was delicious! Everyone loved it.
